WHEN IS A HOBBY NOT A HOBBY? WHEN IT’S A VINEYARD.

A HOBBY GOES WILD AND A PASSION SPROUTS

For Michael Eggebrecht growing grapes began as a hobby. After just a few classes of “Grape School” (a grant funded project of the state of Wisconsin) a new seed was planted in his mind. Hungering for more information he spent his spare time apprenticing on vineyards, attending seminars, networking, researching and experimenting. And it has paid off. Provided with this type of nurturing environment and a wildly innovative mind this engineer sprouted a new sweet passion – Riverview Vineyard, offering the highest quality wine grapes in all of the Driftless Region.

A PASSION GROWS

Riverview began with its first planting in 2004. As Mike will tell you, “There is nothing romantic about growing grapes.” It takes a lot of planning and physical labor. As an inventor with several patents pending, each element of the vineyard was meticulously planned out and executed. The trellising system is unique. Based on a Geneva Double Curtain design it has been tweaked to fit the very special micro climate of Riverview. In fact, everything on the vineyard has been customized for optimum efficiency and growing of the most full flavored grapes possible. Producing a high quality grape is a delicate balance of ground sweetness and micro climate. Riverview grows a unique high quality grape with intense aromas benefiting from the area’s Lafayette loam. Quality control is done at the vine during harvest insuring that the product delivered to the winery is the absolute best.

A BUDDING FUTURE

Not only are premium grapes being grown at Riverview but so are ideas, innovations and cutting edge technologies that benefit the entire grape growing industry. And what does the future hold for Riverview on site? Perhaps it is a PASSION for WINE MAKING! Check back soon because when a HOBBY GOES WILD it grows and grows and grows.
